Wine Tasting in a 19th-Century Winery

This company was established by Abel Pereira da Fonseca in 1926 to administrate the estates that he owned in the region of Bombarral since the beginning of the century, still belonging to the same family.

He planted his first stand-alone vineyards (i.e. vines with no other fruit tree in between) aligned and wired, which was considered very innovating at the time, as there were no tractors. Vineyards were divided into plots, each planted with one sole variety (which was also new at the time). He introduced new varieties. In a separate plot and he planted 30 different varieties to study their adaptability.

The Wine

Grapes from our producer are used to produce a lot of wines. Vineyards are planted on gentle slopes of sandy-clay soils.

The varieties found on these vineyards are:

  • White – Moscatel Graúdo, Sauvignon Blanc, Vital and Verdelho
  • Red – Castelão, Touriga Nacional, Syrah, Aragonez, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon

Golden Grape Tour

Golden Grape Farm has been the scene of battles during the French invasions, and has 3 decades of history of wine production.

The winery has been designed to work the old-fashioned wines with the latest technology. The best grapes ferment in traditional granite wineries. Through the process of maceration and reassembly, with the traditional step on foot, it is possible to extract the compounds of the grape that most interest.

Aware of the responsibility and the environmental impact of the farm, the grapes are organic, without the use of chemicals. Vineyards, orchards, olive groves and hives, fit into a biological production mode, resulting in wine, olive oil and honey with intense and exquisite flavours.

Here the tradition of old-fashioned wine is kept alive. With the technique that the Romans brought over 2,000 years ago, we produce wine from amphora, better known in the Alentejo region, as wine to the carving.

Strawberry Farm Tour

Our Producer
Our main objective is to produce and sell natural products of high quality and excellence. There are two strawberry ranges in production, both of which offer a guarantee of quality in taste, combined with the taste of the palate, which adds the visual taste through the superior shape and size for incorporation in professional preparation, restoration or in high quality confectionery.

The Strawberries
Strawberry is a member of the Rosaceae (Rose) family and goes by the scientific name of Fragaria x ananassa. The letter “x” in its name indicates that strawberry is of hybrid origin and, in the case of strawberry, of two different species. The origin of that hybridization is very interesting and involves a Pan American union that occurred in Europe. Our farmer use the camarosa strawberry, an early short day variety that produces large to very large, firm, deep red fruit.

Benefits
Called “the queen of fruits”, the health benefits of strawberries include improved eye care, proper brain function, relief from high blood pressure, arthritis, gout, and various cardiovascular diseases. The impressive polyphenolic antioxidants content of strawberries make them good for improving the immune system, preventing against various types of cancers and for reducing the signs of premature aging.
