Our producer
Our farm creates and markets snails as well as “Helix Aspersa Máxima” fingerlings in an adapted complete biological cycle. All the production is carried out in an agricultural greenhouse with irrigation systems by nebulizers, in order to guarantee the ideal temperature and humidity for the growth and development of the species. The greenhouse is composed of 12 fenced parks seeded with radishes, cabbages, and turnips and with an average of 460 shelters in appropriate wood.
The snails
The Helix Aspersa is an air-breathing snail, which has a single lung. They have a brownish soft body, covered with slimy mucus and yellow or cream-colored shells with brown spiral stripes. The shell of this species has a height of about 0.9-1.3 inches, and a width of 0.9-1.5 inches, and a lip appears at its edge when an individual is old. It is a small mollusk, with a shell that has a sphere shape and a slightly rough surface, with about 4 or 5 spirals.
Benefits
Snails are a great source of the valuable lectin, posses anti-cancer properties, and help in boosting the immune system and fighting against cancerous cells. Snail slime is extremely rich in allantoin, collagen, and elastin, which are beneficial for the treatment of skin diseases and broken bones. The secretions also have a copper peptide, which is regarded as the only source of a substance manufactured for creating creams that are useful in minimizing scars and wounds.

My two young children and I had a wonderful time getting to know the snails on this lovely farm experience. Clara and Estevão expertly and patiently guided us through the tour explaining the stages of snail growth and reproduction, we learned so much. Clara had prepared a delicious traditional spread of snail dishes served with Portuguese wine. I also greatly enjoyed the conversation. We highly recommend visiting this farm.

We booked the snail farm excursion and loved it! We booked through the website because we wanted to drive ourselves there. Upon booking we immediately got a confirmation with all the details for the day. Waze found the place with no issues and we started our tour. Clara was the farmer and she was so kind and answered all the questions we had. Estevao walked us through all the processes and explained his mission. We enjoyed the lovely farm, beautiful views and learning about snails! We finished our time with some delicious Portuguese snail stew. It was a great outing and I look forward to using this company in the future!!

We took a drive away from porto before going to the airport. A nice activity if you are tired of seeing churches and monuments. We learned so much from the organic farm and snails a like. Hosts were very friendly and accomodating, and the snail fava bean stew was delicious!
