About the Agroecology Farm in Évora
We invite you to get in touch with the diversity of a unique ecosystem. A landscape full of colours, smells, stories, sounds, and living beings that surprise us along all the seasons of the year.
The inspiration of the Montado is accessible for everyone. As is the reconnection with nature. Visit and dive into the Natural System, learn about flora and fauna and the unique characteristics of Alentejo, and celebrate a heritage meant to be everyone’s. Get to know this special farm, one hour drive away from Lisbon, in a quest for sustainability based on the principles of Agroecology.
The themes developed, depending on the interests of visitors, aim to cover a wide area of knowledge, namely:
-
Montado (English: Oakland landescape): history and culture of the Montado, cork, agroecology, organic agriculture, water management, agroforestry, permaculture, Portuguese indigenous breeds, holistic animal management, wild mushrooms.
-
Nature conservation: ecological restoration, reforestation, fauna, ornithology, botany, climate change.
-
Gastronomic culture: traditional cuisine, food innovation, on-farm food processing, acorns as human food, edible wild plants.
-
Archaeology: megalithism, Neolithic, Neolithic pottery, cromlechs.
We have 13 food processing microfactories, all of which can be visited (traditional sausage factory, wood oven, olive oil mill, wine mill, acorn processing, etc.), we house a remarkable collection of 6 indigenous Portuguese breeds that allow us to organize safaris in the Montado and we reconstructed an ancient Neolithic village, complemented by a cromlech.
Visits are supported by 2 interpretation centers, one on the Montado and the other on Megalithism.
