Our producer
Our farmer is a producer of a subspecies of banana originated and grown extensively on the island of Madeira, where it is an integral part of the landscape.. Traditionally smaller than the South American banana but accentuated on the palate, this modest fruit packs a more intense flavour and is a staple of local culinary tradition. Our farm its the oldest farm in Madeira. It dates back to the 15th century, at the beginning of agriculture in island. It has always been a place linked to agricultural activity, in the past these lands provided fruits and vegetables for home consumption and were grown for commerce and later, malvasia grapes and sugar cane.
Embark on a captivating tour that brings you closer to the iconic banana tree. Learn how they are planted and how to identify various varieties and species of banana grown on the slopes of Madeira Island.

We went on a guided banana farm tour with Rui and Elisabete and we had a great time learning about the growing and farming process. Also they were wonderful hosts and fun people. Would recommend!

The five of us spent 3 to 4 hours with Sr Rui and his wife Elisabete. We learnt all about bananas for which Madeira is famous. The varieties, cultivation , transplanting etc. Elisabete then taught us how to make "Poncha", the famous madeirense liqueur including of course tasting it along with eating Madeira cake. An excellent outing to be recommended as a way to learn more about Madeira and its friendly inhabitants.

Had an amazing time today at Valter’s banana farm! 😃 We went for banana farm experience, we also saw many other fruits and got to see the varieties of bananas. 💯 Valter did an amazing tour and took good care of me and my friend, booking was on short notice but we were accommodated really well! Loved the food spread Valter created on a short notice! The homemade honey, farm grown fruits and the local bakery orange cake was amazing, even had them packed for our hotel. Would highly recommend this experience!
