Learn about Olive Farming in Portugal
The Olive Oil Experience is a culinary activity where olive oil plays the starring role. It consists of a visit to a traditional farm with olives and visita a traditional olive mill, and picking olives directly from the tree.Visit a traditional olive oil farm, learn how to make it, pick the olives yourself, and in the end, indulge with a tasting.
What is included:
- Arrival to the farm and welcome by the producer:
- Guided tour of the farm;
- Practical olive oil workshop (traditional way to pick olives);
- Harvesting experience;
- Visit olive mill.
What is not included:
- Transportation to the farm
- Lunch in traditional restaurant (Cod with olive oil, drinks, dessert and coffee) – Optional (last step on your booking)

Our Producer
The Olive Oil Experience is a culinary activity where olive oil plays the starring role. It consists of a visit to the olive groves and the olive mill, then picking olives directly from the tree.
Visit an olive oil farm, learn how to make it, pick the olives yourself, and in the end..indulge yourself in an extensive tasting. You will arrive at the farm and we will introduce you to the farmer. After the presentation, we will walk through the farm to see the olives trees and all the equipment and special techniques for harvesting.
This is a true experience, so you will pick olives directly from the tree. After, we will be in an olive mill, and you will see all the process of transformation. We will lunch on the farm, and you will taste some recipes with olive oil from the farm.
You will end this day with a wealth of knowledge about production techniques, history, and the freshness, intensity, and variety that high-quality olives can offer.

We drove from Lisbon to Assentis to pick and taste olives at the farm of Manuel Lopes. He was a fantastic host. Even though it rained heavily (unusual weather for the time of year and region), he still had plenty for us to do. We brought our two toddlers and he was great with them as well. If we come to Portugal, we would come back again just to see him. Would recommend the experience without reservation!
This is an amazing place! Manuel explained us so much about olive oil and the production but we also talked about many other interesting things. It is a really relaxing atmosphere and an inspiring tour. The oil is sooo tasty!!! Highly recommended!!!
