Itinerary
- Arrival at the farm in Ourique and welcome by your local guide, with a short biosecurity briefing.
- Walk the black pig trails and meet the sows and newborn piglets.
- Follow the growing pigs and learn how they are raised free-range, on pasture and acorns.
- Explore the montado: cork and holm oaks, native wildlife and wild plants.
- Hear about the traditions, know-how and gastronomy of rural Alentejo, with time for questions.
- Optional: spread your blanket under a holm oak and enjoy the regional picnic basket (if booked).

Where does the Alentejo Black Pig Tour take place? On a working family farm near Ourique, in the Baixo Alentejo. It is about 1 hour from the Algarve coast and 2 hours from Lisbon. The exact meeting point is sent after booking confirmation.
How long is the tour and what are the start times? The tour lasts 3 hours. In summer it runs 09:00–12:00 or 16:00–19:00; in winter 10:00–13:00 or 14:00–17:00.
How far in advance do I need to book? Bookings must be made at least 4 days before your visit, so the farm can prepare and follow its biosecurity rules.
Is food included? The tour itself does not include food. You can add a picnic basket with regional products for €68 or book a themed meal at a partner restaurant.
Is this tour suitable for children? Yes. Children aged 6 to 16 pay a reduced price of €27; adult prices apply from age 17. It’s a great outdoor experience for families who love animals and nature.
What should I wear? Comfortable, closed walking shoes, clothes you don’t mind getting dusty, a hat and sun protection in summer, and a light jacket in winter.
What are the biosecurity rules? To protect the animals, guests must follow the guide’s instructions at all times. Please tell us if you have visited another pig farm in the days before your tour.
How many people are in a group? A maximum of 10 guests, for a personal and relaxed visit.
