Portugal is famous for its cork production (accounting for nearly 50% of annual supply) and it can be seen atop wine bottles and in souvenir form all over Lisbon – but how is it made? We transport you to the heart of its production, at a farm in Redondo that applies ecological concepts alongside the medieval montado ecosystem, resulting in an innovative approach to the protection and harvest of their cork oak trees. Set in the beautiful Alentejo region, you will be immersed in the Mediterranean traits.
- The tour will always depend on the weather conditions;
- Use comfortable hiking shoes.

The highlight of my trip to Lisbon with my three children (19, 17 and 14) was our experience at this magical farm. Every detail was thought out with love and care – the beautiful cork trees, the organic products, the delicious food and most of all the conversation. This experience is an absolute must!! I can’t wait to come back again next time I am in Lisbon. With gratitude. Renee

Marvelous experience. We learned a lot, and we saw how difficult it’s the cork production! This is a really authentic experience and the farmer was really funny 🙂 Thank you, good to learn what local have. Enjoyable!

Incredible experience that I highly recommend! This was, without a doubt, our best & favorite day in Portugal. We met the farmer at the “herdade” in the morning where we had a casual discussion about the day ahead & Portuguese agriculture in general. The cork production it’s huge and we learn a lot of new things! Thank you, PFE, very much!!
