About the Cork Trekking Experience in Alentejo

Walk through an authentic cork oak forest on a guided trekking experience in Redondo, Alentejo, at the foothills of Serra D’Ossa. This is a rare chance to explore a 540-hectare family estate (owned by an Anglo-Portuguese family for over five generations) and learn how cork forestry and rural life shape this region.

You’ll hike peaceful farm trails, discover local fauna and flora, and stop at scenic viewpoints for panoramic countryside views. Along the way, your guide explains cork’s heritage and how cork oak forests are managed sustainably.

To finish the experience in true Alentejo style, you’ll visit a winery for a wine tasting with Iberian black pork and cheese, followed by a 3-course lunch in a typical local restaurant (drinks included).

Highlights

Our most complete cork experience. Everything in our classic hike and lunch tours, extended with a vineyard and winery visit and a full 3-course meal.

A proper Alentejo pairing. Iberian black pork and cheese alongside the wine tasting brings real regional character to the tasting stop.

A full day, not a rushed visit. At 4 hours, this covers hiking, cork education, vineyards, wine and a complete meal — a genuinely immersive day in the Alentejo.

Five generations of the same family. This 540-hectare estate has been owned and worked by the same Anglo-Portuguese family for over five generations — a genuine, living connection to the land.

Simply a fantastic experience David Belyea

This was such a unique experience for us! We were greeted at the tasting room by Ricardo and were in his care for the entire tour. He is a wonderful host and guide-very knowledgeable about the area, the process of cork harvesting ( and how sustainably they do it), the estate-you name it! He also has a wonderful sense of humor and is very patient. After an hour or two touring the estate and learning about its history and cork harvesting, we went back for the wine tasting, which was excellent. We come from a wine region in the States and were very impressed with the quality, to say nothing of of the price. If we were staying longer we would have bought more! Our last stop was lunch at a local restaurant which was the final hurrah. It was definitely frequented by locals as opposed to tourists and the food was incredibly good. Bravo for choosing this for us! In all, I can't think of a better way to spend a few hours and will recommend the tour to our friends.

The highlight of my trip Renee A

The highlight of my trip to Lisbon with my three children (19, 17 and 14) was our experience at this magical farm. Every detail was thought out with love and care - the beautiful cork trees, the organic products, the delicious food and most of all the conversation. This experience is an absolute must!! I can't wait to come back again next time I am in Lisbon. With gratitude. Renee

Incredible experience that I highly recommend! Matthew

Incredible experience that I highly recommend! This was, without a doubt, our best & favorite day in Portugal. We met the farmer at the "herdade" in the morning where we had a casual discussion about the day ahead & Portuguese agriculture in general. The cork production it's huge and we learn a lot of new things! Thank you, PFE, very much!!
