Try in the chestnut woods a direct collection of the fruit par excellence, the chestnut, at an organic farm in Jardim da Serra, 20 minutes from Funchal. Converted to organic production in 2004, the farm now offers a chance to rebuild a forgotten tradition: the traditional Magusto, still made in a typical Madeira kitchen in ruins. Over 3 hours, take a guided farm tour, join a workshop on chestnut production, harvesting and selection, take part in the Magusto, harvest your own chestnuts, and finish with a tasting of regional chestnut varieties paired with cider or water and homemade jam. Ages 18+, with a reduced rate for children 11–17 and free entry under 11. Available in Portuguese and English. Minimum party of 2 required to book.

At the end of the last century, the family acquired a small property of around 1 hectare in the Madeira highlands. In 2004, this property began the conversion process to an organic farm. Since then, the family has essentially dedicated themselves to producing and selling the most delicious fruits the Madeira highlands have to offer. In a typical Madeira kitchen in ruins, the traditional Magusto is still made. Come and rebuild a forgotten tradition.
