Our Farm
Our production is a small organic farm dedicated to raising Portuguese autochthonous breed pigs and marketing their meat through organic farming.
We are located in the medieval village of Penedono, in the mountains at 900m altitude, between the regions of Douro and Serra da Estrela. Penedono has a small medieval castle and lots of megalithic monuments to visit.
We began our project in 2012, and we created a new farm from an old abandoned place. Our aim is to maintain a sustainable organic farm.
Our animals feed on pasture that we seeded. They also eat acorn from oaks that abound on the farm. We also produce some crops to feed them (cereals, pumpkins, turnips, fruits, etc.). Every day, we go around the pastures of the farm to distribute food to our animals and verify the proper state of well being for each group (gestating sows, farrowing sows with their piglets and other animals). Every day we verify and maintain all of the fences and shelters so that they are properly functioning.
We also have a small organic garden. Throughout the whole production process, we respect and apply the rules of organic farming.
