Quick Details
This is wine tourism done properly. The Casal do Vale estate covers 180 hectares of vineyard in the hills of Torres Vedras — a family winery producing premium red and white wines since 1980, with grape varieties including Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet, Castelão, Aragonés, Syrah, Fernão Pires, and Moscatel. The tour starts with a Jeep ride through the estate — off-road, through vine rows, with panoramic views over the vineyard and the Torres Vedras landscape. Then comes the winery visit and the tasting: 4 wines presented by Rosa or the family, with food pairings and regional context. Lawrence called it “one of the favourite tastings we’ve done.”

Explore 180 hectares of vineyard by UMM Jeep
Forty-five minutes from Lisbon, in the hills of Torres Vedras, the Casal do Vale family estate has been producing premium wine across 180 hectares of vineyard since 1980. This 3-hour tour gives you the most immersive access possible: a UMM Jeep ride through the estate’s vine rows and open countryside, followed by a visit to the traditional winery and a guided tasting of 4 wines — red, white, rosé, and others from grape varieties including Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet, and Fernão Pires. Rosa, the family’s guide, is consistently described by guests as the highlight of the experience: “extremely welcoming and knowledgeable” (Lawrence), “Rosa, muito obrigada for the tour. We learned a lot” (Hey Yulia). The wine and food were described as “delicious” by Jessica and Renaldo Hollins.

Highlights
180 Hectares of Vineyard Explored by Jeep — Off-Road and Unrestricted Most winery tours take you to a tasting room. This one takes you into the vineyard first — across 180 hectares of estate land, off-road, in a UMM Jeep, at a pace that lets you take in the landscape and understand the scale of what the family has built. Jessica and Renaldo Hollins described “beautiful views.” Jord Ras called it “a very nice family owned winery.” This is what wine tourism looks like when the winery is the destination, not the backdrop.
Rosa — The Host Who Makes the Experience Every review mentions Rosa. Lawrence described her as “extremely welcoming and knowledgeable” and said she “made the experience even better.” Hey Yulia addressed her directly: “Rosa, muito obrigada for the tour. We learned a lot.” Lawrence said it was “one of the favourite tastings we’ve done.” A host who knows every vine, every vintage, and every guest’s name is the difference between a guided tour and an experience you remember.
Premium Grape Varieties — A Serious Wine Estate The Casal do Vale estate has planted some of Portugal’s and the world’s most respected red and white varieties: Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet, Castelão, Aragonés, Syrah, Fernão Pires, and Moscatel. This is not a bulk wine producer. It is a family estate dedicated to quality since 1980, and the 4-wine tasting reflects that commitment. Lawrence noted the rosé and red were “particularly good.”
Torres Vedras — A Wine Region Most Visitors Don’t Know Exists Torres Vedras sits in the Lisbon Wine Region, 45 minutes from the capital, surrounded by vineyards that most tourists never reach. While the city’s wine bars serve the same labels, this tour takes you to a working estate where the family makes the wine, drives the Jeep, and pours the glass. It is the most direct connection to Portuguese wine culture available within an hour of Lisbon.
The Most Complete Vineyard Experience Near Lisbon Three hours, 180 hectares, a Jeep, a traditional winery visit, 4 wines with food pairing, and Rosa. At €111 per person, this is the most complete combination of adventure, education, and tasting available in the Lisbon wine region. Jord Ras called the wines “amazing” and said he has been “a big fan ever since.” Jessica and Renaldo Hollins “can’t wait to go back.” This is the standard by which other wine tours near Lisbon should be measured.
